Rules and Regulations of Guru Nanak Institute

1. Attendance :

70% Attendance in the theoretical and practical training classes is the Compulsory Condition for appearing in the half yearly/final examination but the Controller Exams/ Authorized Signatory / Secretary may exempt any student candidate from this condition without assigning any person. However the candidate will not keep himself/herself absent from the theoretical or practical training classes without prior permission or intimation to the Principal or the Director of the Institute, otherwise disciplinary action will be taken against him/her.

2. Rights of Admission Reserved :

RIGHTS of admission are reserved with the Principal/ Director of the GNIMT Patiala. He reserves the right to reject any application of admission, cancel any confirmed admission or even rusticate the student in the middle of academic session. The Principal/Director of the Institute (GNIMT) reserves to himself/herself the right of admission.

3. Payments :

The fee is payable in advance and in case the candidate fails to pay any installment of fee, on demand or within stipulated/declared time, his/her name will be struck off from the rolls and he/she will have to pay re-admission fee i.e. Rs. 500/– Re-admission however is not guaranteed. Decision of the Principal/Director will be final for granting re-admission.

Every candidate shall have to pay the examination fee and other charges/fee on such date as may be specified by the Director/ Principal of the Institution.

For any charges/fees deposited in the office, the receipt should be obtained for the same.

4. Final Examinations :

I. The question papers will be in English only but the candidates are allowed to answer in English, Hindi or Punjabi. (IPMT)

II. Examination will be conducted by affiliating body.

III. Institute will not be responsible in case exam delay or postponement of the examination upto any extent.

IV. Examination can be conducted any where in Patiala and in outside Patiala also by the affiliating bodies. Students /parents are not liable to object in any case.

5. Leave :

I. The maximum number of leaves which can be granted to a student in an academic year shall be 15 only.

II. No student can claim more leaves as a matter of right.

6. Educational Tours :

The student of GNIMT shall be taken on educational tours excursions during the course of their studies to various historical places. The candidate will have to PAY THEIR SHARE of the bus fare and other expenses at the time of conducting the tours.

7. General Proficiency :

The extent of interest shown by a student and the achievements in various curricular activities shall be corporated (counted) in the character certificate and they will also be awarded Merit/ Appreciation Certificates to be issued on his/her leaving the Institute. A student whose conduct or progress in studies and behaviour is unsatisfactory is liable to be expelled from the Institute at the direction of the Principal/Director.

8. Discipline :

The Institute is well known for its strict discipline. Smoking & making nuisance in its premises is prohibited. Students involved in such activities shall be expelled from the Institute.

If any student is found indulging in any bad activity, his/her name will be removed from the Institute instantaneously and he/she will be HANDED OVER TO THE POLICE for further action. Ragging of students is banned by the Government and it is punishable under the Indian Penal Code.

9. Identity Cards :

On joining the Institute each student should obtain the Identity Card without any cost (IPMT students only) from the office. He/She should attach his or her photo in space provided in the Card, get it signed by the Principal/Director. The Card should be produced while using the library and at important functions of the Institute or whenever the identity of the student is required. If issued card is lost then the borrower can be issued a duplicate card on paying Rs. 100/- because Identity Card is a compulsory document which a student should have with him/her during the course time.

10. Responsibility of the Institute:

The Institute does not hold any responsibility for the loss of books, stationery, money or any valuable things of a student during the study time or on way to Institute from home. However parents are requested to keep a check over their wards and ensure that they carry no valuables to the Institute. Institute does not take liability in case of accident, injury or death of any student while going on tour to hill station, visit to amusment parks, picnic, sports, lakes, rivers, etc.

Institute will not held responsible in any case of theft of any vehicle or part of vehicle.
Students Should Have The Responsibility of his/her Vehicle Standing Inside or Outside the Building.

11. Fines :

I. Absent fine : Rs. 5.00

II. Library fine : After 7 days 2 Rupee Fine for each day on one book.

III. At the time of examination (Monthly/Half yearly absent for every subject is Rs. 100 only.

IV. Late fee fine :Fees can be submitted without fine from 1st till 7th of the month. After that Rs 10 per day will be charged till the last working day of the month. After that name will be cut from the list and student have to pay Rs 500 as re admission fees ( till 10th of next month).

(e) Practical fine/Absent : Rs. 5/- will be charged from the students if he/she is absent in the practical and he/she is not wearing the apron during the practicals.

12. Striking off the Rolls :

The name of the student may be struck off the rolls on account of :
I. Continued absence without obtaining leave for fifteen (15) consecutive working days.

II. Irregular attendance and poor progress in studies.

III. His/Her own request endorsed by his/her parents/guardian.

IV. Not obeying the Rule and regulations of the institute.

V. If his/her behavior or character is not satisfactory.

VI. Any other cause which is causing damage to the goodwill and prestige of the institute.

VII. Any loss or damage to any property of the institute.

13. Re-admission :

Once the name is discontinued from the rolls, the student has to pay the Re-admission Fee i.e. Rs. 500/- again after approval by the Principal/Director of this Institute.

14. Damage of Property :

Any loss or damage to any property of the Institute by a student will have to be compensated by him/her in due time.

15. Library Rules :

I. On admission every student will be supplied Identity card on showing the original fee receipt, If issued card is lost then the borrower shall get a duplicate card on the payment of Rs. 100/-.

II. A student can borrow two books at a time After 7 days 2 Rupee Fine for each day. Text books will be issued for a period of 7 days only.

III. A book that is lost or defaced has to be replaced by the borrower.

IV. No Pen, pencil or other mark should be made on the books while, they are being used.

V. Re-issue of same book to same borrower will be permitted only if the book is not needed by other student.

16. Holidays :

Holidays declared by the Punjab Govt. and Gazetted holidays are observed as closed holidays.

17.Entry into the Institute Premises:

The students are advised/ requested not to keep any knife, Razor or Pistol or any objectionable arms and ammunition, while entering into the premises of the GNIMT, otherwise, necessary and suitable Legal / Police action will be taken and he/she will be responsible for the consequences thereof.

In case of any doubt Principal/Director and all; the Staff Members have authority to check identity card, bags, brief cases etc. on any time to avoid unpleasant happenings.

18. Dress :

I. All the male/female students are required to wear White Apron during the practical classes/field practice. The students are required to be properly dressed for all classes to ensure regular hygienic standard.

II. Students must attend classes, lectures, camps etc. according to the time table on all days, when called upon to do so. Students must attend all examinations.

19. Conduct of the Candidates :

I. Maintenance of cordial, friendly and disciplined atmosphere is necessary in the Institute premises and in its hostels of Boys as well as of Girls.

II. Students are expected to maintain decorum to pay due respect to its faculty and its subordinate officials. Defaulters will be fined or may be expelled from the Institute.

III. The students are not allowed to use alcohol, or to attend training classes, under the influence of any type of intoxicant i.e. Tobacco, barbiturates etc. in the premises of the hostel and the institute. That the student will not join any strike of what so ever kind it may be. That the candidate will keep himself/herself under discipline and no act will be performed which might harm the Prestige of the Institute.

IV. Laboratory instruments, tools and other apparatus must be left in good order after use. If damaged, the defaulters will have to pay for it.

V. The students are advised to keep themselves informed about the day to day instructions on the Notice Board. A plea of ignorance of any rule cannot be accepted as an excuse for breaking it.

VI. There shall be no interference of students in decisions of management, in recruiting or retaining the teacher or any staff, and any such act shall be treated as indiscipline. If any student interferes and makes attempt for above, he shall be expelled from the Institute.

20. Fee Concession :

Brother sister concession – 10% of the total tuition fee or Installments system
I. No fee concession is allowed to any category under any circumstances due to heavy financial commitments involved in conducting the technical trainings.

II. It should be very clearly noted that fee, once paid, is neither refundable nor adjustable in any circumstances. The Institute will not be responsible for any change in circumstances or family economic conditions or conflicts, disputes or decision to discontinue the study or any other reason. Payment of fees in time is the responsibility of the candidate and his/her Guardian/Parents, failing which the name of the candidate may be struck-off from the rolls of the student for the rest of the session.

21. Facilities provided at the training centre of Guru Nanak Institute of Medical Technology Patiala.

(i) Laboratories :
The institute has well equipped Medical Laboratories, for the Practical Training of the candidates in the institute.

(ii) X-Ray Centre :
The X-Ray Centre of the institute is equipped with one new X-Ray unit 100 MA, along with fully equipped Dark Room for the practical training.

(iii) Deptt. of ECG :
ECG Deptt. of the institute is equipped with a new BPL ECG Machine.

(iv) Operation Theatre:
Own Operation theatre & Demonstration Room, fully equipped with required instrument, machinery, tools and furniture (According to the affiliating body as per syllabus.)

(v) Ophthalmic Deptt.
GNIMT is equipped with latest instruments so that the students can take practical training under the guidance of specialist doctors in the institute itself.

(vi) Charitable Medical Tests :
The Institute is giving the facility of free Medical tests or lowest charges to poor patients every day.

(vii) Library :
The Library has a large collection of medical books on various medical subjects according to the syllabus and the students are imparted teaching with the help of library books. The books are issued to the students for their home/hostel reading. Lectures dictate the notes in the class-rooms to the students in Punjabi, Hindi and English.

(viii)Audio-Visual Aids :
Video films on different topics of the syllabus are shown to the students from time to time to increase their practical knowledge as well as theoretical knowledge.

(ix) Over Head Projector (OHP) :
OHP means study with transparency, It is a new technology and different topics of the syllabus are shown to the students from time to time to increase their practical/ theoretical knowledge.

(x) Water Cooler :
The institute has a water cooler to provide cold , clean drinking water.

(xi) Latest furnished lecture hall with individual sitting facilities.

(xii) Surveillance Camers:
Institute is equipped with surveillance cameras which can be monitored from the office to maintain discipline in the institute.

(xiii) Hostel
The institute provides the accommodation/mess facilities to boys and girls. Accommodation will be available on “first come first served”.

(xiv) Demonstration :
Institute has been provided with charts, models, dummy, clinical equipments like B.P. Set, Weighing Machine and all types of the clinical and nursing home appretus etc.

22. Free voluntary placement cell:

Placement cell would be available where technocrats, professionals would be giving expert advice to passed out students e.g. prep. of project report, selecting of lab premises, infrastructure needed cost evaluation guidance.

23. Use of Alcohol or any intoxicants or Narcotic or smoking are not allowed in the Hostel and in the institute premises. The admission will be cancelled if found using the said substances.

IMPORTANT :
Parents/Guardians to please note that :
I. Fee once deposited will not be refunded.

II. If one fails to deposit the Monthly fee in time, the name of the student will be struck off the rolls.

III. On failing to pay the dues, a student’s name will be struck off the rolls and re-admission wil then be required, if he turns up for continuing his studies in the Institution.

24. Right to call parents/ guardians

The Principal/Director of Guru Nanak Institute of Medical Technology Patiala is authorised to call the parents/guardians of the student in the office.
I. If the attendence of the student is less then 70% in any month.

II. If his/her behaviour or character is not satisfactory.

III. If he/she causes damage to the movable Properties of the GNIMT Patiala.

IV. If he/she has not paid the monthly fees, examination fees, hostel charges.

V. If found ignoring instructions issued by the Principal/Director.
Note : No T.A./D.A. will be paid to the parents/guardians of the students if called for meeting/discussion.

VI. Admission cannot be claimed as a matter of right in the GNIMT and the Director/Principal reserves to himself the right of admission.

25. Range of Marks in each Grade and Division in results are as under :
